Three Surprising Facts About Heat

An experienced mortgage lender with strengths in new business development, market analysis, and relationship building, Rick Pedrosa currently serves as president and owner of Miami-based LendMe Mortgage, LLC. While he enjoys listening to a wide variety of musical genres in his leisure time, Rick Pedrosa maintains that his favorite movie is Heat, starring Al Pacino and Robert De Niro. Below are three little-known facts about the 1995 Michael Mann-directed film.

1. Adapted from a TV movie: In 1989 NBC aired the TV movie L.A. Takedown, which included almost half of Heat's eventual storyline. That's because Mann originally pitched the story as a potential TV series after enjoying success as a producer for Miami Vice and Crime Story.

2. Based on a former Chicago police officer: Mann met former officer Chuck Adamson while working as executive producer on Crime Story. In the film, Pacino's character, based on Adamson, tracks down and kills criminal mastermind Neil McCauley, played by De Niro, at LAX; in real life, McCauley was killed outside an Illinois supermarket in a failed armored car hijacking.

3. Jon Voight's character is based on Eddie Bunker: An ex-con and crime writer, Eddie Bunker worked as a technical consultant on the film. Mann made Bunker's novel, "No Beast So Fierce," required reading for the actors portraying bank robbers.
